About Ryan White
The DC Ryan White Program draws inspiration from Ryan White, whose legacy transformed HIV care and advocacy in the United States. Diagnosed with AIDS in 1984 at a time when misinformation and stigma surrounding HIV were widespread, Ryan became a national advocate for compassionate care, education, and equal access to treatment. His courage and determination helped change public perceptions of HIV/AIDS and paved the way for greater investment in care and support services for people living with HIV.
Today, as the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program continues into its fourth decade, there is an ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for people with HIV, expanding access to care, and supporting individuals who are out of care or not yet virally suppressed.
